The name Trick has long been synonymous with metal ALL of the current and former Trick kits have all been crafted from aircraft grade, AL13 aluminum drum shells. The 3 mm shells feature a dual 45 degree bearing edge and laser cut holes for precise placement and accuracy.
Why metal? To sum it up in the easiest form consider this, for the best tonal and resonant notes in other instruments metal has always been the best fit. This is true of cymbals, bells, many horns and endless other instruments and devices that make sound. Consider what a wooden bell or cymbal would sound like.
The follow-up question is generally, "Why the emphasis on machines, technology and precision?" That question is complicated and misleading. Most people think that machines make our drums for us and are further under the conclusion that it makes it easier. Precision is best measured by the final product. Tuning requires precision and is necessary for the desired sound and operation of an instrument. The same idea is valid in the construction of our drums. It is important to us that every drum have the same consistency at their root level. The purpose of technology isn't always to simplify work, sometimes it is to advance it beyond the old boundaries.
Trick aluminum shells are generally impervious to environmental factors which negatively affect wood drums such as temperature or humidity and Trick shells are certainly not affected at all by age. Trick shells requires no matching as each size has a specific tonal range and it will be accurate and consistent.
Our drums and their material allow us more freedom in the finishing process. We can paint, wrap, adhere, sew, weld, bolt or powder coat your finish on. Our main finish type is powder coating, powder coating is unique in the sense that you can only powder coat metal. Powder coat is not only very durable and beautiful it's also environmentally friendly compared to liquids.
Trick Drum Lines
In 2013 Trick is introducing the "Trick Drum Lines". These lines are broken into categories with a-la-carte shell pack and color combinations. These lines will allow us to streamline the ordering process, trim down the price a bit and allow a better understanding of our kits and their design. Of course our custom shop will remain open for business, this method allows for some buyers to find exactly what they are looking for. Information on these lines are coming very soon but in the meantime here are the names of the upcoming lines:
Trick FLAT LINE
Trick Candy Velvet
Trick Vintage Metallix
Trick Road Rough
